The Browning Drake was a very popular set in the middle and late 20s. It was a typical 4 valve neutrodyne with the following valve lineup:

A neutralised RF. stage, a regenerative detector, 1st audio amplifer and an output stage. Many thousands of 01As were used in the earlier Browning Drakes and being battery powered (mains powered radios were only experimental at this stage) the heavy filament current of these valves necessitated a car battery to supply the power. So in many households a weekly ritual was to cart the car battery to the local friendly gas station for a recharge.
